About Me
 
 
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern, Licensed Dietitian, and Licensed Massage Therapist.  My professional responsibilities have included working with individuals and groups; teaching; writing; speaking; clinical research; media work; and designing and implementing programs related to diabetes, disordered eating, and wellness. For the last 14 years, I have focused on working in-depth with individuals struggling with eating and weight-related problems; endocrine disorders; depression and anxiety-related conditions; effects of trauma; and chronic medical conditions.










    
 I earned both my bachelor and master’s degrees in Nutrition at Texas A&M University, and completed my dietetic internship at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas in 1994.  I have had extensive experience working as a Registered and Licensed Dietitian in a variety of clinical, outpatient, and wellness settings, and earned the credential of Certified Diabetes Educator within my first few years of practicingFrom the time I was completing my dietetic internship, I have also pursued training in counseling, psychology, and  body-centered therapies.  In 2001, I began training through the HANDLE Institute in Seattle, Washington, to provide neurological screening and programs designed to support healing and strengthening of the nervous system, and became a Certified HANDLE Screener in July 2004. In May 2005, I completed training at the Lauterstein-Conway Massage School in Austin, Texas, to become a Licensed Massage Therapist. In May 2009, I graduated from Texas State University with a master's degree in Health Psychology. I am licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern, and am employed and supervised by Terry Allbright, LPC-S.

I am a graduate of training in the Hakomi Method, a body-centered therapy that faciliates nonjudgmental self-awareness and transformation of problematic core beliefs and behavioral patterns.  I also am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and have completed the Intermediate level of training in Somatic Experiencing; both of these are neurobiological models of trauma processing.  Additional training and continuing education opportunities that I participate in include subjects such as attachment, integrative health care, clinical hypnosis, dialectical behavior therapy, and advanced biochemistry and physiology. I have also completed the curriculum to become a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, which includes training in herbal and homeopathic therapies, functional testing, and education in therapeutic applications for vitamin and mineral supplementation. In addition to maintaining my private practice, I am affiliated locally as a consultant with People’s Pharmacy, as a provider participating in clinical research studies at Georgetown Medical Center Clinic, and as a member of the Wellness Education for Living and Learning (WELL) Team at Southwestern University in Georgetown. For my full resume, please click on this link:  Kara's Resume.
